To the Market‌

Overview

Developing the product in accordance with SAFe practices and methods resulted in reducing the initial budget by an astonishing 70% and allowed for a timely release.

To the Market is a startup that was brought about by an idea to create an online alternative to a farmers’ market, a physical marketplace. This idea stems from the custom in Russia whereby small farms and village households sell produce to the travelers and passersby, sometimes literally, on the side of the road. Local produce is popular with the city population due to the growing demand for fresh, organic and good quality food. Our team worked on the entire product realization process: from concept to customer.

Challenge

Our team was brought in to refine the concept and realize a product that would bring together the producers of local, organic food and modern tech-savvy consumers, and create value for both parties.

Our solution

The product was developed using SAFe DevOps practices and we made sure that the product in the making went through every stage of Continuous Delivery Pipeline. At the Exploration stage, we delved into the market research and customer development. We held a series of in-depth interviews with the potential end users. This allowed us to validate and refine the initial idea. To sum up, this thorough groundwork enabled us to
- refine the business model to make it more relevant to the market demand,
- formulate a viable hypothesis and determine metrics to test it,
- identify the core functionality of the application and create a product roadmap,
- design and develop an MVP which was realized as an Android mobile application.

Challenge

There was a requirement for a solution that would enable local farmers to market their products via a mobile channel and provide city dwellers with the means to locate and buy local foods on the go.

Our solution

The MVP was built to test the following hypothesis: the city dwellers, passing through suburban and rural areas on the way to/from the city, would be interested in buying home-grown produce from small farms and village households located along the way.
Developing the product in accordance with SAFe practices and methods resulted in reducing the initial budget by an astonishing 70% and allowed for a timely release.

Results:

The application was released in January 2019 in Google Play. Currently, the product is being further developed to attract the next round of investment.

Technology:

Microsoft .NET Core, Android SDK, Yandex API, Google Cloud.
